Second Deduction [Video]

[Three days in this place, and he'd made no progress in deducing the motive behind this situation.  There seemed to be no pattern in who had been taken and how long they had been kept here.  Not even the victims who had been kept here for long periods at all knew anything real about the situation.  The few supposed reasons he'd heard were ludicrous and obviously merely a guess on the part of his fellow captives.  Obviously, he couldn't make any more progress in this case until he had acquired more information.

And so....]

Hello!

[He smiles brightly at the camera.]

My name is Conan Edogawa!  I wanted to thank everyone who helped me when I woke up here.  Thank you!

But I'm still confused.  Did everyone here just wake up like that?  Someone told me that we're here because the scientists brought us here.  Is that really true?  And has anyone ever met them?  They must be very mean people if they won't let us go home.

But don't mean people usually have a reason when they do something?
fierybluebird: (Something on your mind?)

[personal profile] fierybluebird 2011-04-01 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
If you find one, you're welcome to ask them why, but I doubt they'll give you the kind of answer you're hoping for.

Oh? What did he say?

The library burned down.

[Conan twitches slightly. Did that mean there weren't any mystery novels here?]

So they occasionally do helpful things. Could it be some attempt at building rapport with their captives? Perhaps they're trying to purposefully initiate a stockholm syndrome situation...

[identity profile] modernholmes.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Why do you say that?
fierybluebird: (thinking)

[personal profile] fierybluebird 2011-04-01 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Because you're not the first person to wonder why we're here. Or why some friends get sent home and not others.

Really? Does that mean there are detectives here?
fierybluebird: [Marco arching an eyebrow leaning on an arm with blue background] (Is that so?)

[personal profile] fierybluebird 2011-04-01 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Define "detective."
kongeriget: (confused)

[personal profile] kongeriget 2011-04-01 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, I tried! No one cared. And I'm not a boss, or a detective.

[identity profile] modernholmes.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Its wrong. For some crimes... no one should ever stop caring. Because if no one cares justice loses meaning.

[...] At least that's what Shinichi-niichan would say!
kongeriget: (um lost)

[personal profile] kongeriget 2011-04-01 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Well, he's right.

[identity profile] modernholmes.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Someone who uses logic to seek the truth.

[identity profile] modernholmes.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
[Of course I am.]

Shinichi-niichan is very smart!
kongeriget: (confused)

[personal profile] kongeriget 2011-04-01 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
He a kid too?

[identity profile] modernholmes.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Its terrible. Are there any books left here? Besides the ones you just mentioned.

Ah... [Conan suddenly remembers he's talking to a kid who probably wouldn't know what to do with a lecture about criminal tactics with hostages.] They want you to do something for them, right? Isn't it easier for them if the people they bring here don't argue with them?

[identity profile] modernholmes.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
No, he's a high school detective. Heiji-niichan is a high school detective too!
fierybluebird: (nerd glasses and WB tie)

[personal profile] fierybluebird 2011-04-01 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty much everyone then.

As for "officially" there are a few marine-justice types running around, but not many.
kongeriget: (confused)

[personal profile] kongeriget 2011-04-01 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
So that's pretty much a kid, right?

[identity profile] modernholmes.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Haa, everyone is a detective? I wonder if anyone here has even as much deductive ability as the old man?]

I met one, I think. He said that you didn't have police here.

[identity profile] modernholmes.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
They're almost adults.

[At least people actually listened to me when I was seventeen.]
kongeriget: (confused)

[personal profile] kongeriget 2011-04-01 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, okay.
fierybluebird: (eyes wide shut)

[personal profile] fierybluebird 2011-04-01 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Much less. Sadly.]

Right. Most people are just expected to follow the law of the wild. It's tricky since possessions are kind of limited and dependent on the scientists bringing them in, and murder victims get brought back to life. So if you mess with someone who doesn't deserve it, they usually have friends backing them up.

I wouldn't worry too much about that though. People rarely kill kids, even Blackbeard wouldn't sink that low. [Scowls darkly and grits teeth, but gets it under control.] The monsters are the bigger concern. And sometimes the scientists mess up -- or something -- and that tends to be more unpleasant. And dangerous.
