We would like to see further explanation for why the character hates lying or living a life as a lie when the wiki resource given describes him as someone pretending to be a child. Further elaborate on this would be appreciated, as well as evidence of this disposition.
This question involves going deeper into the plot of the series as well as some of Conan's deepest motivations.
First, Shinichi believes in revealing the truth. As a detective he treasures the truth, and dedicates himself to revealing the truth behind the crimes he encounters. This is even stated in the catch phrase he often repeats. 'There is only one truth.' He believes that his job as a detective is to seek out the one truth behind all the lies and trickery criminals employ to conceal their crimes. For someone who believes in the truth so strongly it is a very painful thing to be forced to live a life under a false name.
Although it is true that he has grown to enjoy being a child sometimes, the truth is that he would give anything for a cure. To answer to his own name again and to speak with his own voice. Because he does not like speaking about his own feelings this is often more implied than said, but occasionally he refers to his feelings on the matter. During the Desperate Revival Arc, when he turned back to his real size for a few short days, he attempted to hold on to his adult form for just a few more seconds. Even through the excruciating pain of the change, which he has described as feeling like his very bones were melting. Just to be able to tell Ran his feelings with his own voice and face.
As Conan, Shinichi is like a child in witness protection who has been forced to give up his identity and name. All the time still seeing his family and the life he used to have. He tells lies to the people he loves while knowing that he is only causing them pain. But everything he does is to protect them.
He did not choose to be turned into a child. It was a freak accident caused by a poison that was supposed to kill him. The organization responsible for poisoning him believes him to be dead, and if they ever discover his survival he could be in great danger. When his childhood friend and love interest walked in just after he realized this, he panicked and concocted the identity of Edogawa Conan.
Since then, every encounter he had with the Black Organization has only reinforced the idea of how dangerous they are. They have infiltrated industries and law enforcement all over Japan, and are ruthless. The Organization has a record of murdering anyone with any knowledge of their existence. Conan has become convinced that the only way to protect the people he loves is to keep them from knowing anything about the situation. That he HAS to lie or he will be putting them in danger.
On several occasions he has made statements about how much he hates having to lie to his best friend, specifically. There have been many times he has nearly told her. But every time something has happened to remind how much danger she could be in if she knew.
In addition to this, he doesn't want her to worry. Even if all he can do is call her through a voice changer, he will do that. Even if it is hurting both of them. He thinks it is better than making her worry over how much danger he is really in.
If you need further evidence of this I can probably track down some video clips to support it.
