[Accidental Video]

[The video feed turns on with no warning, and at first is jolting around so much that it is impossible to tell anything about the location or the person carrying it. There is only the sound of heavy breathing, the howls of the ferals and a low motorized whine. Suddenly the feed straightens out for a second, showing a familiar looking clearing not far from Dissimulo. And a very familiar soccer ball slamming into the nearest feral.

It is thrown into a tree with enough force to splinter the trunk, and the pack shies away for a second. But that doesn't last. With another loud howl they begin to close in.]

[He tries to shift away from her, but winces as the movement jars his ankle.]

I was bored, so I went for a walk.

That far off from town by yourself?

[Eyebrow raise. So if he went for a walk, why have a skateboard and a soccer ball with you? Wait a minute...Conan was the only one in the area when the broadcast showed the ball hitting one of the ferals into a tree. And it wasn't a tap, it was like it was slammed into it.

...weird...]

Wh-why didn't you ask me to come with you? Or at least tell me?

[She raises her voice some, adding to Adam's question--which is a good one in and of itself. Though she knows it would not help his condition to get angry at him...]

I didn't want to bother anyone.

[He had no intention of telling them what he had actually been doing.]

[...by going far enough that something can attack you? You're already giving Adam ideas and this isn't helping your case.]

You wouldn't be bothering anyone by asking someone to come with you.

He's right. And you know I would've come. [The fact that maybe that's exactly why he didn't tell her doesn't occur to her.]

Now look what's happened...

[She frowns; looking at all of the bruises and the blood. She has to remind herself not to touch and make it worse.

Isn't he bothering them more this way...? Making them worry?

Ugh. Just like Shinichi alway sdoes...]

But I'm alright now. And it isn't that bad.

I found you holding onto that skateboard like a lifeline; if that's 'not bad' in your perspective, I hate to see what you think is worse.

[His tone is calm but someone can tell that he's furious at this.]

[They both are. But as of now she can't figure out whether she's angrier at him or herself for not keeping him on a darn leash.]

You were lucky Adam got to you when he did. Otherwise it really could have been a lot worse!

[...There is a pause, as she tries to calm down a little. And then--]

And I didn't think detectives relied on luck.

[He's always considered himself one, hasn't he?]

If I hadn't hurt my leg I would have been fine.

[Stubborn brat, wasn't he?]

You sure about that?

[Skeptical Ran is skeptical, but at the same time she doesn't wanna think about what would've happened...

She folds her arms. He is indeed, very stubborn, but you would think she'd be used to it.]

Conan, the two of us could barely handle it. You need to be more careful, you know how this place is.

[He was certain he could of outrun them on his skateboard, if only he'd had the full use of both legs. But he preferred to keep the full extent of the modifications secret. So instead of protesting he just looks down contritely.]

Yes, Ran-neechan. I'll be more careful.

[Yeah, let's hope he does. Once they get back from the hospital, Adam's going to have a look around that field. It's not putting him at ease for some reason.

But he leans back, crossing his arms and closing his eyes. There was two hours ahead of them and he was rather exhausted. Short nap time.]

[As worried as she is, Ran seems at least somewhat appeased by what Conan says. Even if it's the some promise he gives any time he gets into trouble. Next time, next time, next time...

She gives a sigh and spares Adam a glance after a while, since he'd gone quiet. Apparently he's satisfied as well.

Either that or the adrenaline was wearing off.

For her, too. Her eyelids became heavier, and though she never thought she'd be able to sleep in such conditions, it seems she's at least dozed off.

She blinks what feels like only twice, and when she wakes up a final time, she notices that the train is not moving.</>]

[Conan had stayed awake and watched them the entire time, still too aware of his surroundings from that close call to sleep. Instead he uses the time to think over the situation.]

[The moment the train stopped, the ranger had woken up and rubbed his eyes. Has it been two hours already?

He turns to the younger ones and nods.]

Looks like we're here. Let's go.

[She stands up, then, wobbling; her legs almost numb. A bit of stretching rectifies it though, and she walks over to Conan to offer her hand, and otherwise arms free for carrying him.

Adam had done so up until this point, hadn't he? It's her turn...she wants to feel like she's helping in some way.]

Are you sure this Doctor Harper can help us?

[Conan allows himself to be picked up. He knew beer than to think he would be allowed to walk anywhere. Not that he was certain he could walk, from the feeling of his legs.]

Positive. After I got injured when the fog first came around, he was the doctor who patched me up. Of course, he got angry when I left bed and reopened some of my stitches.

[He got up and opend the train doors, rod in front and checked to see if the coast was clear.]

Alright, we're good to go.

[Right. He did mention that earlier, didn't he? She needs to trust him on this...him and the doctor, because she may not have any other choice. So she nods...

And with Conan in her arms, she follows Adam to the doors, stepping out of the train when he seems to give the okay. This doesn't stop her from looking around herself, when she gets the chance...stopping only briefly to examine things.]

...Nothing. I guess we should be grateful.

[Ha ha. And I bet these two would be furious if I did the same thing.]

I talked to him a few times too! But he seemed kind of grumpy!

[Yeah, Owen acts like he has a stick up his ass.]

He's a little rough around the edges but he's good to patients.

[Oh, boy. Ran can't wait to meet this guy.]

Well...I hope he's not too far. He knows we're coming, right?

[Adam called him earlier, she's sure, though she didn't really eavesdrop on their conversation...]

He was at the hospital when I talked to him before.
