[So... he was back to being Conan again. These brief, brief times when he could be himself. When he could speak with his own voice and answer to his own name. They never lasted long enough. Not for everything he wanted to do. But for now all he could do was keep up the facade.]

Hello? Does anyone know what happened? I think I'm a little confused.

I don't talk about him a lot. It makes Ran-neechan sad.

[Oh boy, making Ran sad equals bad in his mind.]

Ok, what did he do?

[It was a pain, but it would be suspicious if there wasn't some explanation about Shinichi after the events of the fast few days. He knew Ran would be upset after his disappearance.]

He's a mystery loving idiot who is never around.

...

[He had to think for a moment. This guy made Ran upset by not being around...so there was a connection.]

Are they close?

They're childhood friends.

[The look on his face was that of someone thinking, if anyone could see it. There was something about having friends from such a young age that really sticks with people even as they get older.]

I think anyone would feel that way. It says how much they care.

[Off screen, he looks a little misty thinking about his own childhood friends.]

Shinichi-niichan is still an idiot.

[There was perhaps a hair too much meaning in that statement for the child he was pretending to be. It was the truth, anyway. He was an idiot for getting into this situation. An idiot for not seeing how much Ran meant to him until it was too late. Just a mystery loving fool who couldn't do anything but watch her cry over him.]

[There's a small smile on his lips.]

He'll grow out of it. We all do at some point, sooner than others but still. We're simply human and we tend to make mistakes a lot but what's important is that we learn from them.

[I wish I could grow out of this.]

Maybe.

[You will.]

Have some faith in him. It can do wonders.

[He's never put much trust in hope or faith.]

Why?

Why not?

[Responding to his question with another. Ha.]

It's something we can't see but sometimes, holding on to that thought keeps us grounded or at least sane.

Easier to understand?

[He's not mocking him, he's just curious.]

True. But sometimes logic isn't enough. But that's just my belief.

If it works for you then it works.

[Shrugs.]
